Knowing that they must win one game against UT-Dallas to secure their spot in teh 2013 ASC Softball Tournament, the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats split their doubleheader against the Comets, winning the first game 6-5 before dropping game two by a final score of 8-4.
LC's four run second inning in game one highlighted the Lady Wildcats 6-5 win. Junior
Stephanie Jaeger, playing her first game since suffering an injury against UT-Tyler, started the scoring with an RBI triple to right field, scoring
Laura Gulotta-Parrish.
Emorie Nugent then drove in Jaeger and
Chelsea Allen with another triple.
Emily Douglas drove in the final run of the inning by driving home Nugent with an RBI single.
Jaeger would drive in two more runs in the fifth inning with a two RBI double to right center that made the score 6-3.
The Comets would rally in the seventh inning off of LC relief pitcher
Leslie Eastham, as Megan Aragones' two-run double to deep left center made the score 6-5. However, a spectacular diving catch by
Emorie Nugent wit two outs in the final frame ended the Comets' rally, giving LC a 6-5 win.
Jaeger finished game one going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored while Douglas went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
UT-Dallas got the scoring started early in game two, as an RBI double by Brittanie Knowles and an RBI single from Rachel Riley made it 2-0 in favor of the Comets after the first half inning.
Knowles struck again in the third inning with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Jordan Bratcher to make it 3-1 in favor of the Comets.
LC would fight back to the lead, however, as Jaeger drove in
Chelsea Allen with an RBI single to make it 3-2. Nugent then hit her second triple of the day, driving in
Abby Maillet to tie the game 3-3. Maillet then scored on a pass ball to give LC their first lead of the game 4-3.
The lead was short lived for the Lady Cats, as UT-Dallas answered with four runs on three and one error to give the Comets the lead for good, eventually take game two by an 8-4 final score.
The Lady Wildcats now sit at 22-13 overall, 11-11 in ASC play, one game behind the Comets for third place in the ASC East.
