With their ASC Tournament chances in the balance, the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats split a crucial conference doubleheader with #13 ETBU, winning game 4-2 in eight innings before dropping game two 8-0 in five innings.
LC fell behind 1-0 in the third inning of game one before senior
Brianna Hall drove in
Sandra Ouchley with an RBI single to centerfield in the top of the fifth inning.
Leslie Eastham would then shut down ETBU's potent offense in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to force extra innings.
The Lady Wildcats then plated three runs in their half of the eighth inning as
Courtney Ivey reached on a fielder's choice with one out to drive home
Jessica Taylor. Ouchley would then rip a double to right centerfield to drive in Ivey and
Meagan Pearson to put LC ahead 4-1.
ETBU would score in the eighth to make it 4-2 before Lya Swaner grounded out to LC second baseman
Laura Gulotta-Parrish to end the game.
Ouchley led LC at the plate in game one, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Eastham picked up her ninth win of the year, throwing a complete game, walking none, and giving up two earned runs.
ETBU scored four runs in the top of the first inning of game one and never looked back, as they took the nightcap 8-0 in five innings by way of the eight run rule.
LC managed just two hits off of ETBU starter Kelly Jo McClendon. Freshman
Nancy Bunting took the loss for LC to fall to 8-5 on the year, as she was unable to find the remedy for ETBU's bats, giving up 4 earned runs on three hits and two walks in the first inning.
The doubleheader split brings LC's season record to 21-12, 10-10 in ASC play. With Texas-Dallas (20-13-1, 11-9) sweeping their doubleheader against Mississippi College on Monday, the Lady Wildcats sit one game behind the Comets third place in the ASC East Division standings.
LC will have a chance to claim one of the four spots from the ASC East in the tournament this weekend, as Texas-Dallas will come to Pinevile for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Wildcats must take just one out of the four games in order to claim a spot in the ASC Tournament.
