Freshman pitcher Tripp Davis struck out three in his first career start for the Wildcats

Wildcats downed by LSU-Shreveport 8-6

3/27/2013 1:07:00 AM

Box Score Despite collecting 13 hits to only six for the Pilots of LSU-Shreveport, the Louisiana College Wildcats fell two runs short of their in-state rivals, dropping an 8-6 decision on Tuesday at Wildcat Field.

Nine walks allowed by Wildcat pitchers combined with three errors proved to be the difference in the end.

LC freshman pitcher Tripp Davis recorded his first career start, going two innings and striking out three. Ron Anders (0-1) would take the loss for the Wildcats.

With several huge American Southwest Conference series just around the corner, the Wildcats were encouraged offensively, as they saw solid nights offensively from Mark Riendeau, Matt Scott, Kyle Feazell, Nic Cole, and Colt Ducote, all of whom collected two hits a piece.

Junior Taylor Beavers led LC at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI a run scored, and two walks.

The game served as the final tuneup before LC's three-game ASC series against Texas-Dallas on Thursday and Friday, a series that will loom large in the ASC Eastern Division Standings.

The Wildcats, at 4-2 in conference, currently sit at second place in the ASC East, which puts them in position to potentially be a host team during the 2013ASC Tournament. Texas-Dallas, at 5-4 is in the driver's seat to gain one of the four spots from the East in the tournament, and a series win would put the Comets right back in the hunt to be a host team as well.

The series will begin with a doubleheader beginning Thursday at noon and will continue Friday with a single nine inning game, which will also begin at noon.
