Matt Scott's first hit of Louisiana College's American Southwest Conference series against the Choctaws of Mississippi College could not have come at a better time.
After forcing extra innings with a two-run ninth inning, the Wildcats found themselves in another late-inning situation that called for a hero to step up.
This time around it was Scott, a Pineville native who came into his final at-bat hitting .192 on the season and was a combined 0-for-10 in his previous at-bats during the series. All of his previous frustrations were all but forgotten about, however, after he sent a shot over the left center field wall to give the Wildcats a 6-4 win and take the rubber match of the weekend series is dramatic fashion.
It was the third consecutive weekend series in which the Wildcats collected a game-winning it in the eighth inning or later, as
Daniel Bonadona hit game-winning singles in the two previous home weekend series against Schreiner and North Central College.
LC starter
Josh Lang had another outstanding start, striking out six and giving up four earned runs in nine innings of work.
Wildcat senior reliever
Chris Bridges picked up the win to move to 2-1 on the year, as he threw a scoreless 10
th inning to keep the game tied at 4-4.
Senior outfielder
Cole Bagbey led the Wildcats at the plate, as he finished 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
The win moved LC's record to 4-2 in ASC play and 13-11 overall. The Wildcats will play a mid-week game at home against LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday before traveling to Richardson, TX next weekend for a huge ASC weekend series against Texas-Dallas.
