Baseball completes sweep of Schreiner

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PINEVILLE, La. –  The Louisiana College baseball team sealed its series win over Schreiner University  with authority Saturday, blanking the visiting Mountaineers 15-0 in the first half of a double-header.

This win came on the heels of a 17-6 LC win in Game 1 Friday night and preceded a 9-8 victory for the Wildcats in Game 3.
By series end, LC's record stood at 6-6 with Schreiner holding a record of 5-13.

In the first game, it was LC senior pitcher Seth Webster (2-2) who stole the show, hurling a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Webster, a Deville naïve and Buckeye High School product, faced 25 batters in the seven-inning game and struck out the side in the fifth.

At the plate, the Wildcats were led by sophomore second baseman Cary Myers with a 3-for-5, three-RBI and one-run-scored performance.

LC senior outfielder Cole Bagbey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored while reserve catcher Brian Garrett went 2-for-2 with a run scored and another driven in.

Mountaineers first baseman Chris Whitehead went 1-for-3 with a double to pace the Schreiner offense in Game 1. Schreiner's Daniel Brewer (2-3) took the Game 1 loss.

In the late game, LC trailed 8-7 with two outs in the eighth but reserve designated hitter Daniel Bonadona delivered a go-ahead two-RBI single.

Junior Taylor Beavers, who had caught all 15 previous innings on the day, took the mound in the top of the ninth and registered his first career save retiring the Mountaineers in order.

Beavers was also a star on offense in Game 2, going 5-for-5 with a run scored and a run driven in.
Reliever Chris Bridges (1-0) got the win while Schreiner's Reagan Reed (0-1) took the loss.

LC sophomore Josh Lang had his own standout performance, working seven innings and striking out nine while allowing two earned runs, walking none and scattering 12 hits and registered a no decision.
