Game 2 Box Score
A four-run second inning was all the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats needed offensively to take game one of Tuesday's doubleheader, as
Leslie Eastham and Madison Vige combined to give up seven hits, two earned runs, and walk only one Yellow Jacket batter in a 4-3 win.
The momentum-shifting inning started with back-to-back walks by
Laura Gulotta-Parrish and
Emorie Nugent.
Chelsea Allen then reached on an error by LeTourneau shortstop Taylor Kaderli following a sac bunt by
Jade Johnson. A wild pitch then scored Nugent, which was enough for LeTourneau to pull their star freshman pitcher Karen Kubacak.
Back-to-back RBI singles from
Stephanie Jaeger and
Emily Douglas followed, as LC scored four runs on two hits, and one Yellow Jacket error.
LeTourneau would get two runs back with home runs from Shelby Borders and Brooklyn Greene in the third and fourth inning, respectively.
Vige would shut the door in the sixth and seventh inning, however, as the freshman pitcher picked up her first career save, tossing two scoreless innings in relief.
Game two was highlighted by a six run outburst by the Lady Wildcats in the first inning and an outstanding pitching performance from freshman right-hander
Nancy Bunting in a 9-2 decision in favor of the Lady Wildcats.
Bunting, making her first career start, threw a complete-game while scattering eight hits, giving up one earned run and walking none.
LC's would give Bunting all the help she would in the first inning, as they scored six runs on five hits, chasing LeTourneau's starting pitcher Taylor Thibodeaux before she was able to record her second out.
The big inning started with Jaeger being walked then stealing second and third base. Douglas' single scored Jaeger, and was followed by a
Meagan Pearson double and back-to-back walks to load the bases.
The Lady Cats would then get a two RBI double from Nugent, an RBI single from
Jade Johnson, and a
Chelsea Allen RBI single to make it 6-1.
Gulotta-Parrish had one of her better games of the season in game two, finishing 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and two RBI.
The doubleheader sweep moved LC's record on the young season to 9-2 overall, 3-1 in ASC play. They will The Ozarks on Friday in Clarksville, AR in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
