Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 In game one, the Wildcats found themselves victims of losing a late-game lead for the fourth time in as many games.
Carrying a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning of a seven inning contest, the Wildcats allowed Concordia to reach on a botched third strike, then allowed the Tornadoes to score the tying run after an error by Will Currier.
This set up a game-winning sacrifice fly by Quinn Guest of Concordia, which scored Brandon Hollier for the game-winning run.
Seth Webster was solid once again in his third start for
Mike Byrnes' club, going 6 2/3 innings, and giving up two earned runs, eight hits, and striking out five.
Mark Riendeau,
Jake Hillman, and
Matt Scott each collected two hits apiece for the Wildcats offense, which put up three runs in the first inning against a tough Concordia pitching staff.
LC wasted no time getting on the board in the second game of the doubleheader either, as Hillman smashed a double to right center in the top of the first to bring home two runs.
The two run first helped jump start the Wildcats to a 7-2 win over the Tornadoes.
Hillman would add another RBI single in the 5
th inning, following an RBI sac fly from Riendeau, which plated
Adam Broussard.
Kyle Feazell also added 2 RBI, while
Cary Myers (1-2 with an RBI and a run scored) and
Cole Bagbey (2-4, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base) helped pace the Wildcats to the 7-2 win.
But the real story of game two was the career-best outing from junior right hander
Madison Lachney, who went the distance, throwing a complete game while scattering seven hits, striking out five, and giving up just two earned runs.
It was the longest outing of Lachney's career and the first time a Wildcat pitcher has thrown a nine inning complete game since Dustin Tubre did the same against Texas-Tyler on April 9, 2009.
