LC wins regular season finale with 89-53 win over Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – Louisiana College placed four players in double figures Monday night as the 18th-ranked Lady Wildcats tuned up for the American Southwest Conference tournament with an 89-53 victory over Mississippi College at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The victory sends LC into postseason play with a 21-3 record, including a 17-2 mark in ASC games. Mississippi College, which failed to qualify for the ASC tourney, finished its season at 12-13 overall and 9-10 in ASC play.

Natosha Gottlieb, a senior All-America candidate, and sophomore Kala Chenier combined for 26 points in the first half as the Lady Cats rolled to a 55-24 lead at the break. Gottlieb had 14 points in the first half while Chenier had 12.

LC opened the game with a 15-3 run over the first six minutes. Mississippi College never mounted a serious threat after that.

LC's pressure defense was a key to the game. The Lady Cats scored 39 points off 26 Mississippi College turnovers. LC scored 23 points off turnovers in the first half when it built its big lead.

Gottlieb finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds followed by Chenier with 18 points. Hitting six of 12 shots from 3-point range,  and nine rebounds. Neka Jones chipped in with 15 points and Skylar Chenevert scored 10 points.

LC dominated the boards, outrebounding Mississippi College 56-35.  LC had 29 offensive rebounds and scored 22 second-chance points. In addition to Gottblieb's 14 rebounds, Kaci Willis had 10 for the Lady Cats.

LC senior point guard Shaina Howard, who leads all of NCAA Division III in assist to turnover ratio, had 10 assists with just two turnovers.

Elizabeth Brooks and Jasmine James scored 12 points each to lead Mississippi College.

LC, winner of the ASC East, will open the league tourney Thursday against Mary Hardin-Baylor, the No. 4 seed from the ASC West. The tourney will be played at Howard Payne in Brownwood, Texas.
