Box Score After finishing the 2012 season 15-24 with a disspointing loss to Concordia in the first round of the ASC Tournament, the 2013 Wildcats looked to turn over a new leaf and start off the season with a bang.
Mike Byrnes' club did just that in their season opener, as the Wildcats defeated the Texas College Steers 5-1 in front a a live and energetic crowd on Friday night.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after senior
Adam Broussard doubled to the right-center gap before fellow senior
Cole Bagbey followed with an RBI triple.
Senior pitcher
Seth Webster (1-0), who transferred at the semester break from Nicholls State, had a solid outing in his debut, as he went six innings, gave up six hits, struck out three and gave up his only run on a game-tying solo home run by Juan Carrillo in the sixth inning.
Mark Riendeau would answer that solo shot with one of his own in the bottom of the sixth, as the sophomore outfielder from Carlsbad, Ca. hit a shot over the left field wall that put the Wildcats ahead 2-1 and gave the momentum back to LC, which they never relinguished.
The Wildcats added anothe run in the sixth after an errant throw by TC third baseman Matt McEuen allowed catcher
Kyle Feazell to come around for a run.
Taylor Beavers' double down the left field line in the 7th brought home short stop
Nic Cole to make it 4-1. Third baseman Will Currier scored the final run of the game after he tripled and was brought in on a sacrifice fly by
Cary Myers.
Junior pitcher
Jacob Trahan was outstanding in relief, as he earned the save after going three innings, giving up only one hit and no runs.
The Wildcats will conclude the series tomorrow with a double header beginning at 12 p.m.
