A strong second half rally led by juniors
Danisha Allison and
Neka Jones highlighted the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats' 73-68 American Southwest Conference opening victory over the Concordia Tornadoes.
Trailing 60-51 with just over nine minutes left in regulation, LC freshman forward hit a long three-pointer to draw the Lady Cats back with six at 60-54.
That shot would prove to be the momentum changer that the Lady Cats would need, as they would go on a 22-8 run to end the game and take their first conference victory of the season.
Allison's shot with 4:40 left would tie the game at 62 before Concordia would retake the lead just moments later at 65-54.
But back-to-back three-pointers by
Neka Jones with under two minutes left to play to give the Lady Wildcats a 70-66 lead would prove to be the dagger that sealed the win for LC.
Jones would finish the night with a team-leading 15 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals.
Allison finished with 13 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Kaci Willis was the other Lady Wildcat in double figures (12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks) while
Skylar Chenevert would chip in seven points and 11 rebounds.
LC took the win despite shooting just 27% (22-81) from the field. The Lady Cats were dominant on the glass, however, particularly offensively, as they outrebounded the Tornadoes 65-41 and a 32-13 margin on the offensive glass.
LC (2-1, 1-0) will face ASC rival East Texas Baptist next Thursday in Marshall, TX at 5:30 p.m.
