PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College baseball team sent its eight seniors off with a bang. In the final home game of 2012, the Wildcats defeated Ozarks 4-2 to salvage a three-game series and keep LC's postseason hopes alive.
LC (14-19, 7-8 American Southwest Conference East) had fallen to the Eagles (12-22, 4-11 ASC East) Friday night then by a count of 5-3 in the first half of a doubleheader Saturday morning but rebounded in the late game thanks to a dominant pitching performance by sophomore
Cole Prejean (Brusly, La./Brusly HS).
Prejean (2-1), who's spent most of his time at second base this season, pitched seven complete and struck out five while walking one and allowing six hits and one earned run.
Senior
Greg Uzee (Gretna, La./Archbishop Shaw), who has battled shoulder injuries each of the past three seasons, registered the first save of his college career after pitching the final two innings of the game. He retired all six batters he faced and struck out three.
At the plate, LC was led by senior shortstop
Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard) who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Senior left-fielder
Steven Bowman (Hammond, La./Hammond HS) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, junior first baseman
Mike Doughty (Crowley, La./Crowley HS) went 2-for-4 and freshman center fielder
Darien Bartie (Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic) went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Josh Stoffregen (0-3) took the loss for Ozarks after pitching 4 2/3 innings and striking out two while allowing three earned runs.
Nick Brill and Mitchell Powers went 2-for-4 apiece to lead Ozarks at the plate in the late game.
In the first game, Ozarks' Tyler Erickson (5-5) pitched all seven innings and struck out one while allowing three earned runs.
Kory Kottenbrook (Springhill, La./Springhill HS) fell to 2-3 on the year after pitching 4 1/3 innings and striking out three.
Ozarks was led by Powers at the plate. The Eagles shortstop went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Cole Bagbey (Monroe, La./Sterlington HS) was LC's top batter with a 2-for-3 showing.
LC returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a visit to LSU-Alexandria.
