Baseball starts UTD series with hiccup

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College baseball team got off to a rough start in its American Southwest Conference East Division series against Texas Dallas Friday night and fell 13-2 to the Comets.

The Wildcats (10-12, 4-3 ASC East), who had struggled at the plate in previous games, got eight hits on the night but were unable to get key hits with runners aboard.

Worse, the LC defense committed five errors which led to six unearned runs by the Texas Dallas (18-11, 7-3 ASC East).
Sophomore catcher Taylor Beavers (Georgetown, La./Tioga HS) was the most consistent batter of the night for LC and went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the fourth inning.

The Comets scored 13 runs on 13 hits while committing no errors to give Derek Dallas (4-4) the win. Dallas struck out six while walking two in the game.

LC senior Justin Reed (Kinder, La./Kinder HS) took the loss and fell to 2-3 on the year after pitching 5 1/3 innings, striking out three, walking three and allowing nine hits and 10 runs, five of which were earned.

Texas Dallas was led offensively by Chase Brown and Kaleb Robinson. Brown went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Robinson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Both players connected on homeruns over the left center field wall in the game.

The Wildcats and Comets will wrap their three-game series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
