CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – From the outset, Friday seemed a bit off for the Louisiana College women in their third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Hours after having the start of their first round delayed due to tornadic activity in the area, the Lady Cats fell 94-91 to host team Thomas More.
LC (24-5) led most of the way and enjoyed a double-digit lead in the second half but a furious comeback by the Saints (25-4) spelled the end of the Lady Cats' season.
Senior guard
Roslyn Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville HS), in her final game in an LC uniform, was the top offensive performer for the Lady Cats and put up 19 points.
Junior forward
Natosha Gottlieb (Alexandria, La./Bolton HS) was good for 12 while freshman forward
Kala Chenier (Bossier City, La./Calvary Baptist) put up 10. Freshman guard
Skylar Chenevert (Glenmora, La./Plainview HS) scored nine.
Thomas More, which use just seven players in the game, was paced by a 36-point night by junior guard Allison Long.
Four other Saints finished in double figures: junior guard/forward Lauren Hargett scored 16, junior guard Jill Brunsman scored 12 and 6-foot-1 junior post player Katie Kees and sophomore guard Devin Beasley scored 10 apiece.
In 2011-12, Louisiana College fielded a team that consisted of just two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore and 12 freshmen.
With that squad second-year coach Jason Tinsley guided LC to a top 25 ranking and trip to the NCAA tournament, a third-consecutive American Southwest Conference East Division crown and second trip to the American Southwest Conference Tournament Championship game.
