Next stop for LC Baseball ... LSU Tuesday night

3/19/2012 5:06:00 PM

PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana College baseball coach Mike Byrnes announced two weeks ago that his Wildcats would be adding an important play date to their 2012 calendar. On April 3 at 6:30 p.m., Louisiana College would travel to Baton Rouge for a game against one of the most storied programs in all of the NCAA, the LSU Tigers.

The game will be broadcast live on 95.5 KZLC, Louisiana College's campus radio station. LSU will also provide live video, stats and other features through the "Geaux Zone," specific links to which can all be found on the LSU Baseball schedule page.

Tickets for the game are still available via the LSU Online Ticket Office and cost $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 3-12.

“It's a great honor for our kids to get to play against one of the top programs in Division I and in probably the best facility in the country,” Byrnes said. “It's great for the team, great for this school and I think it will be great for the community to see our kids out there.”

It will be LC's first trip to Alex Box since 1998, a year in which LC lost 7-2 to the Tigers. In in the early 1990's, Louisiana College defeated LSU when the Wildcats were still a member of the NAIA.

The upcoming meeting would not have occurred but for mutual rainouts and available games.

“(LSU Coach Paul Mainieri) contacted me and asked if we had an available mid-week game on that date,” Byrnes said. “We had a junior varsity game scheduled, but we will move that game to a later date to allow our kids this amazing opportunity.”

The mood among the players on Monday can best be described as tempered excitement.

The LC men said that they couldn't afford to allow the upcoming game to become a distraction.

“First of all it is an honor to play LSU or any D-I really,” senior shortstop and reigning All-American Jordan Marks said. “LSU is one of the top teams in the SEC and has such a rich tradition that you can't help but get excited. But, we have to remember that it is just one game and we have a lot of other business we need to take care of this season. We still have two conference series to play between now and then. So, on behalf of the entire team, we are excited and deeply honored but not distracted from the task at hand.”

Louisiana College will travel to LeTourneau Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference game and will visit American Southwest Conference East Division rival Mississippi College for a three-game series this Friday and Saturday.
