Baseball falls 4-1 to Centenary

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College baseball team lost a close one Friday night in the opener of a three-game home stand against Centenary. The Gents allowed five hits and defeated LC 4-1.

Centenary (15-4) benefited from the efforts of starting pitcher and former Holy Savior Menard player Lance Nugent, who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before LC freshman first baseman Troy Green (Pineville, La./Pineville HS) got a hit.

Nugent (4-0) pitched 7 1/3 innings and struck out six while allowing four hits and walking two. Taylor Henry closed out the game for Centenary.

LC (8-7) got its lone run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when senior shortstop Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard) sent junior center fielder Cole Bagbey (Monroe, La./Sterlington HS) home on a ground out.

Bagbey was LC's most productive player at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double. Green went 2-for-4.

Senior right-hander Justin Reed (Kinder, La./Kinder HS) took the loss and fell to 2-2 after pitching three innings and striking out four. Junior Kory Kottenbrook (Springhill, La./Springhill HS) pitched five innings of relief and struck out six.

The Wildcats and Gents will conclude their series with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
