PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College officially began their quest for NCAA Tournament glory Wednesday afternoon, departing from campus for the 2012 Division III national tournament and the Crestview Hills, Ky. Regional.

A traveling party made up of all 17 players, coaches, athletic trainers and administration flew out of Alexandria en route to Cincinatti, Ohio, the city whose outskirts Crestview Hills lies along.

While this is the Lady Cats' third consecutive NCAA tournament berth, it is still sweet for the leaders of a team that features just two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore and 12 freshmen.

“Compared to the last two years, it was almost like starting from scratch this season,” senior guard Roslyn Wilmer said. “But Coach (Jason) Tinsley brought in a great group of girls who came along fast and now we're back in.

“I know there were a lot of nay-sayers going into the season, though. We heard it from all sorts of people that we were too young and we never forgot it. I'm proud to be part of this group.”

Wilmer and junior forward Natosha Gottlieb are the only players to have been a part of all three NCAA tournament teams and two of just five to have played on last year's team.

“We're all really, really happy to have this opportunity,” Gottlieb said. “As a team with so many new players, it wasn't expected for us to get to this point but our freshmen grew up quick and got us to this point.”

Louisiana College (24-4) will face host team Thomas More (24-4) in the opening round on Friday at 6 p.m.  Central Standard Time.
