PINEVILLE, La. – After several false starts due to rain, the Louisiana College Baseball team was finally able to open home play Tuesday with a doubleheader against the Texas College Steers. LC lost the early game 5-1 but rebounded to win Game 2 4-3.
In the first contest, three unearned runs in the fifth inning and sluggish bats cost LC (1-3) the game as two errors and just five hits were not enough to overcome eight hits and solid pitching from Texas College.
In the late contest, the Wildcats bats didn't fare any better, but the timing of the hits were impeccable. LC scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning and held off the free swinging Steers for the win.
Sophomore catcher
Taylor Beavers (Georgetown, La./Tioga HS) and senior outfielder
Steven Bowman, both of whom played the entirety of the doubleheader, were the offensive leaders.
Beavers went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the second game while Bowman went a combined 2-for-4 on the day.
Sophomore right-hander
Madison Lachney (Iowa, La./Iowa HS) got the win in Game 2 while
Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard HS) picked up the save.
Jordan Meisner (Baton Rouge, La./Tara HS) took the loss in the first game.
Texas College was led by Austin Enriquez with a combined 3-for-5, three RBI performance.
Colby Ryan was the winning pitcher in Game 1 with the save going to Aldo Montoya. Chris Burroughs took the loss in the second game.
LC returns to action this Friday at 6 p.m. with a home game against Howard Payne, the first of a three-game series against the Yellow Jackets. The series will conclude with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
