Women's soccer enjoys tremendous road trip, prepares for home stretch

It seems as though the Louisiana College women's soccer team may have hit their stride at this point in the season, as they had perhaps their finest and most complete weekend all season, splitting the weekend road trip 1-1.

The action started on Friday with a 3-0 shutout over LeTourneau, their 4th shutout of the season, one shy of the school record set in 2007. Goals were scored by Taylor Bergeron, Sara Smith (assisted by Brandi Martin), and Alex Corne (assisted by Haley Gerald).

Bergeron's goal was her sixth of the season, which ties the school record. This would be quite an accomplishment for anyone, but even more impressive is that Bergeron is just a freshman.

Senior Emily Breaux was outstanding yet again, coming up with 3 saves behind a tenacious defensive effort led by Anna Champagne, who allowed LeTourneau only 3 shots on goal, 5 shots total.

The Lady Wildcats'  performance was perhaps even more impressive on Saturday despite coming up on the wrong end of a 1-0 score against UT-Tyler. UT-Tyler, who sits atop the ASC standings at 8-0, 11-3 overall, grinded out the victory against the Lady Wildcats who again turned into a hard fought, gutsy defensive effort. Breaux recorded seven saves off eight shots on goal.

LC managed to hold UT-Tyler scoreless the entire first half before Jordan Johnson snuck a goal past Breaux in the 60th minute to give the Lady Patriots what would be the deciding goal.

It was just the second time all season long that the Lady Patriots were held to only one goal in ASC play, the other coming against Mary Hardin-Baylor. UT-Tyler had previously scored 24 goals on the season against only 3 goals given up.

With LC playing arguably their best soccer all season long, they sit just two wins shy of tying the school mark of six set in 2007. They will prepare for a Thursday matchup at 5 p.m. against Concordia followed by Senior Day activities at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
