Texas-Tyler slips past Wildcats in Game 1

PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana College lost for only the second time in conferece but still fell a half-game back in the American Southwest Conference East Division with a 4-2 loss to No. 4 Texas-Tyler here Friday night.

Texas-Tyler (30-2, 13-2 ASC East) had trailed the Wildcats (21-10, 8-2 ASC East) heading into Friday night's contest, the first of a three-game series, but overtook LC after a dominant pitching performance by Chad Sherman (8-0), who struck out 13 while walking one and allowing seven hits and no earned runs.

LC junior Josh Foster (Houma, La./Winnfield HS), fell to 5-2 on the year despite pitching a solid five innings and striking out one while allowing five hits and two runs.

Offensively, the Wildcats produced two runs on seven hits while the Patriots put up four runs on eight hits with each team committing an error.

Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard/LSU-Alexandria) and Anthony Benoit (Lafayette, La./St. Michael's) were the top performers for Louisiana College each going 2-for-4.

Seven different Patriots managed to get a hit in the game with Aaron McCain, 2-for-4 with two runs scored, being the lone multiple hit player. TJ Martin went 1-for-3 with three RBI in the contest.

The Wildcats and Patriots conclude their series Saturday at noon with a doubleheader to decide who will end the weekend as the ASC East's No. 1 team.
