AUSTIN, Texas – The Louisiana College baseball team's 2011 campaign, one in which the Wildcats improved their overall record by nine games from the year prior, came to a heartbreaking close here on Saturday as Concordia down LC 19-9 and 10-0 in the American Southwest Conference Tournament.

LC (26-17) had logged a 3-1 win over Concordia (27-15) in the first contest of this three-game series but could not repeat the performance on Saturday.

A year ago, the Wildcats went just 18-23 and had to go on a seven-game win streak to earn a berth in the ASC Tournament, where they were ousted in two games by Hardin-Simmons.

This season, LC notched series wins over Hardin-Simmons as well as rival and traditional ASC East power Mississippi College, downed No. 4 Texas-Tyler once and swept both East Texas Baptist and Ozarks.

Along the way, the Wildcats even garnered votes, though never quite cracked the Top 25, in the national polls.

On Saturday, though, good fortune did not shine on Louisiana College.

The Wildcats pitching staff had one of its worst collective outings of the year, surrendering 29 runs on 31 hits over two games, both of which were stopped in the seventh inning on the 10-run rule.

Brent Schaekel, who went a combined 5-for-9 with five runs scored and five RBI to pace the Concordia offense, had an inside-the-park homerun to end the second game.

The Louisiana College bats were not bad on the day, particularly in a 14-hit showing in the first contest, but managed just three hits in the second contest.

Senior Cody Laprarie (Bentley, La./Grant HS/LSU-Alexandria), last year's ASC East Newcomer of the Year, went a combined 4-for-7 with one run scored to pace the LC offense.

Senior catcher Chris Waguespack (Destrehan, La./St. Charles Catholic/Delgado CC) went a combined 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sophomore Mike Doughty (Crowley, La./Crowley HS/LSU-Eunice) went 3-for-4 with a homerun, three runs scored and four RBI in the first game.

Freshman Cole Prejean (Brusly, La./Brusly HS), who led the ASC in wins this season, took the loss and fell to 8-2 on the year in the first contest while Greg Uzee (Gretna, La./Archbishop Shaw), the Wildcat ace who had battled shoulder injuries the two years, fell to 3-3 and took the loss in Game 2.

Gerry Morrison (3-0) was the winning pitcher in Game 1 and Scott Hays the winner in Game 2.
