AUSTIN, Texas – The Louisiana College baseball team moved one step closer to the American Southwest Conference Championship tournament Friday with a 3-1 win over Concordia in the first of contest of a best-of-3 affair.

The Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh thanks to a RBI single by Jordan Marks, who scored and insurance run later in the inning as part of a 2-for-5 performance.

Those two runs proved the difference as junior lefty Dustin Fulks struck out three batters in two innings to pick up his third save of the season and preserve the win for senior Justin Reed (2-1), who scattered eight hits and one walk in seven innings of work.

Should LC win once on Saturday starting at 2 p.m., the Wildcats would advance to the double-elimination ASC Championship Tournament next weekend.

If Texas Dallas and Texas-Tyler, the two teams that finished higher ranked than Louisiana College in the ASC East should both be eliminated in the opening weekend, the Wildcats would host the ASC East Tournament.

Senior shortstop Steven Davis, making a rare appearance in the leadoff spot for LC, went 1-for-4 on the day, that one hit being a leadoff triple in the first which became the first run of the game.

Senior designated hitter Anthony Benoit added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Colin Butschek (7-3) took the loss for Concordia after working 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and striking out five.
