CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Louisiana College successful in completing their sweep of the Ozarks Eagles here Saturday, defeating their American Southwest Conference East Division opponents 7-3 and 20-10.
The wins brought the Wildcats' season record to 21-9 overall and 8-1 in the ASC East, good enough for first place. Ozarks record after the sweep sat at 4-24 overall and 1-11 in the division.
On Saturday, neither game proved too difficult as the Wildcats.
LC took a 7-3 win in the first contest thanks to the pitching of freshman
Cole Prejean (Brusly, La./Brusly HS), who improved to 6-0 on the year after pitching five innings and scattering six hits, and the bat of junior second baseman
Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard/LSU-Alexandria), who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI while connecting on his team-best seventh home run of the season.
Bobby Osburn (0-6) was the losing pitcher in the first game while Ozarks top batter in the first contest was Freddy Prince with a 2-for-3, two-RBI showing.
In the series finale, LC had its best offensive showing of the season, scoring 20 runs on 17 hits to give
Greg Uzee (Gretna, La./Archbishop Shaw), pitching in relief of
Justin Reed (Kinder, La./Kinder HS), his third win of the season compared to one loss. Michael Skimbo (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
Marks was again solid, going 2-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI, but it was freshman catcher James Beavers (Georgetown, La./Tioga HS) who was the star, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and six RBI.
Senior
Chris Waguespack (Destrehan, La./St. Charles Catholic/Delgado CC), serving as designated hitter, went 2-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI, freshman
Matt Scott (Pineville, La./Pineville HS) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI and senior
Brandt Daigle (Alexandria, La./Alexandria Senior HS) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.
LC returns to action at home this Friday night when Texas-Tyler, the second-place team in the ASC East, come to down to duke it out with the Wildcats for first place in the division.
