LONGVIEW, Texas – The Louisiana College baseball team had one of its worst opening innings of the season and never recovered in the first of a three-game American Southwest Conference East Division contest at LeTourneau. The Wildcats were outscored 8-0 in the first two innings en route to a 10-8 defeat.
The Yellow Jackets (17-8, 5-8 ASC ) put up six runs in the first and two in the sixth and withstood an attempted comeback by LC (23-12, 9-4 ASC East), a run that featured six LC runs scored across the sixth and seventh innings.
It was a loss that put a stain on a solid offensive showing.
Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard/LSU-Alexandria) went 2-for-4 and connected on his ninth home run and 11th double of the season while
Chris Waguespack (Destrehan, La./St. Charles Catholic/Delgado CC) went 3-for-5 including a three-run homer in the sixth, his fourth of the season.
Anthony Benoit (Lafayette, La./St. Michael's) went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and
Cole Bagbey (Monroe, La./Sterlington HS) 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the contest.
LeTourneau was led at the plate by second baseman Haydn Vaughn, who went 2-for-4 with four runs driven in.
Jeremy Burke (5-1) picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets after striking out two in 5 2/3 innings.
Josh Foster (5-3) was the losing pitcher.
The three-game series concludes Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
