PINEVILLE, La. – It got a little hairy at the end but Louisiana College was still able to end its home regular season schedule in style, downing cross-town rival LSU-Alexandria, 6-5.
The Generals (10-28) scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on third and go-ahead run on first with James Morgan, who had given the Wildcat defense and pitching staff fits all evening.
Closer
Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard/LSU-Alexandria) struck out Morgan swinging to the end the game and send LC to 23-11 on the season.
The Generals took an early lead with a solo home run by James Morgan the top of the second but the Wildcats rallied to take a 3-1 lead after an RBI single by
Steven Davis (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish HS) and back-to-back RBIs by
Adam Broussard (Nederland, TX / Nederland HS/Stephen F. Austin/Baltimore City CC) and
Cole Bagbey (Monroe, La./Sterlington HS) in the fourth.
LC added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a second RBI single by Bagbey.
Morgan hurt the Wildcats again in the eight with an RBI double that cut LC's lead to 4-2, but
Jordan Marks (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard/LSU-Alexandria) followed an eighth-inning triple by Davis with his team and conference-leading eighth home run of the season up the Wildcats' advantage to 6-2.
Marks switched from second base to pitcher in the ninth to preserve the win, albeit in a non-save situation.
Chris Bridges (Maurice, La./North Vermillion HS) picked up the first win of his college career, and moved to 1-0 on the season, pitching three innings in relief of starter
Stuart Morgan (Yazoo City, Miss./Benton Academy/Holmes CC), who worked the first three innings of the contest.
Joey Johnson took the loss.
Bagbey was the top batter for LC and went 2-for-4. Senior
Chris Waguespack (Destrehan, La./St. Charles Catholic/Delgado CC) went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Tid Hilger went 3-for-4 with a run scored and James Morgan 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Generals.
LC, which faces a six-game divisional road trip to end the season, returns to action this Friday at 2 p.m. with a visit to American Southwest Conference East foe LeTourneau in Longview, Texas. This will be the first of a three-game series between Louisiana College and the Yellow Jackets.
