ALEXANDRIA, La. - The Wildcats kept it close for most of the game but a flurry of runs by LSU-Shreveport, the No. 13 team in the NAIA, in the latter innings of Tuesday morning's DARE Game, held at historic Bringhurst Field, led to a Louisiana College loss of 14-5.

LC (18-9) and the Pilots (27-8) entered the sixth inning tied, 2-2, but a flurry of long bombs by LSU-S in that inning blew open the game.

The Pilots were good for six runs on three home runs in that inning and went on to scored a combined 12 runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, adding a fourth home run along the way.

The Wildcats countered with a towering two-run homer by freshman designated hitter Matt Scott (Pineville, La./Pineville HS) in the sixth but could not answer effectively in the ensuing innings.

Freshman Madison Lachney (Iowa, La./Iowa HS) took the loss and fell to 1-1 on the year after 1 2/3 innings of relief work.

Pilot righty Jared Mortenson (5-0) picked up the win in 1 2/3 innings out of the bull pen, a stretch during which he allowed just one hit.

Scott and senior Chris Waguespack (Destrehan, La./St. Charles Catholic/Delgado CC) finished as the top offensive performers for LC, each going 2-for-4. Scott added two RBI and a run scored while Waguespack drove in a pair of runs.

LC returns to action this Friday at 2 p.m. with a visit to American Southwest Conference opponent Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., for what will be the first of a three-game conference series.
