PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College softball team logged its third and fourth consecutive home shutout here Friday evening, downing Chapman 2-0 and 4-0, but the real story of the night was another record-setting performance by senior pitcher Rene' Schwartzenburg.

Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) became LC's all-time wins leader in Game 1 of the doubleheader.

It was a momentous occasion, but one of which Schwartzenburg said she was not keenly aware.

"I really, honestly didn't know what record exactly," Schwartzenburg said. "It's something you can't focus on when you're on a team like this or any team. I just don't focus on individual awards. If it was a team thing, I'd totally be for it, but if it's just me making a record, it's not that important."

Friday night's victory brought her career total to 68, one better than Sandi Clark, who pitched at LC from 2003-06.

"It's a great honor because I know how good of a pitcher she was," Schwartzenburg said. "When I came in, she was somebody I could look up to as an earlier pitcher. Just having our names side-by-side is a really big honor for me."

Friday night, Schwartzenburg did justice to the record she claimed, striking out nine in seven innings of work and taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing two late hits.

"I love no-hitters, but I always mess things up because I think way too much about it," Schwartzenburg said. "That's what happens when I think. As a player, you're really not supposed to focus on those things. I didn't get down or anything at all. It's just a no-hitter - no big deal."

The good news for Schwartzenburg was that her earned-run average did not take a hit.

Freshman second baseman Stephanie Jaeger (Haughton, La./Haughton HS) turned a double-play to end the inning and the first game.

"Stephanie did an amazing job - she saved my butt on that one," Schwartzenburg said.

Jaeger was also quite productive at the plate in the first game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview) went 3-for-4, Emily Douglas (Gonzales, La./St. Amant HS/Nicholls State) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cassie DeCoste (Pineville, La./Pineville HS) 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Rhianna Stepler-Camp (2-8) took the loss for Chapman in Game 1 after pitching four innings and striking out three.

Game 2 featured another stellar pitching performance for an LC hurler.

In that contest, it was freshman Kaylee Guidry (Walker, La./Walker HS) who took to the circle. The right-hander improved to 3-0 as a starter after fanning 13 batters in a complete game.

Menard went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Kelsey Brown (Rayne, La./Notre Dame-Crowley/Hinds CC) 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to pace the LC offense.

Katie Terry (5-7) took the loss for Chapman after pitching six innings and striking out two.

With the sweep LC improved to 20-4 on the season while Chapman dropped to 7-17.

LC returns to action on Tuesday with a home American Southwest Conference East Division doubleheader against East Texas Baptist, the team that eliminated the Lady Wildcats from last year's NCAA tournament. The first game will begin at 4 p.m.
