Game 1 Box Score / Game 2 Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. – It was the best defensive showing of the year for the Louisiana College softball team. The Lady Cats improved to 17-3 on the year by holding Mary Hardin-Baylor scoreless through all 13 innings of a Saturday doubleheader, which LC swept by scores of 1-0 and 8-0.

In the first game, senior Rene' Schwartzenburg (Marskville, La./Marksville HS) moved one step closer to eclipsing two career records at LC, wins and shutouts.

Schwartzenburg, who on Friday set became the all-time strikeout record holder at LC (after Saturday her career total was 565 batters fanned), now has 66 career wins and 33 career shutouts.

Sandi Clark, who pitched at LC from 2003-06, holds both of those records with 67 wins and 35 shutouts.

On Saturday, Schwartzenburg (9-1) allowed just three hits and walked only two while striking out eight en route to the win.

UMHB's Erica White (5-1) also allowed just three hits and walked only two while striking out three in six innings of work for the Cru, which fell to 11-9 on the year by the end of the doubleheader.
However, in the second inning, the Lady Cats scored the game's only run on an RBI single by freshman

Kaylee Guidry (Walker, La./Walker HS) that scored junior Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS).
Guidry and Greene both went 1-for-2 to lead LC in the first contest.

Game 2 turned into a blowout for LC after the Lady Cats scored five unearned runs in the first two innings then plated three earned runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest on the mercy rule.

Senior Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More) improved to 6-2 on the year after pitching all six innings of the win, striking out six and walking two while allowing five hits.

Offensively, the Lady Cats were nearly unstoppable, scoring their eight runs on 13 hits.

Junior Kelsey Brown (Rayne, La./Notre Dame-Crowley HS/Hinds CC) went 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored to lead the way for LC but was by no means the lone standout.

Guidry went 3-for-3 as well and added an RBI while Amber Thomas (Rosepine, La./Rosepine HS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview HS) 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Carli Wheeler (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) went 1-for-2 with a run scored and another driven in and freshman Chelsey Allen (Houma, La./Vandebilt Catholic) went 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI.

Ariel Kemmerer (2-3) took the loss for Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second game.

The Lady Cats, currently ranked No. 5 in the nation, return to action Tuesday with a trip to Texas-Tyler, the current No. 14 team in all of NCAA Division III, for a 4 p.m. American Southwest Conference East Division doubleheader.
