Game 1 Box Score / Game 2 Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. – In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, No. 5 Louisiana College of the NCAA Division III and No. 10 Oklahoma City University of the NAIA, the results were as close as one might have expected. Actually, by the time Friday's doubleheader had ended, LC and the Stars were in a dead heat, having scored five runs apiece and split with Oklahoma City winning the first contest 1-0 and the Lady Cats the second 4-3 in eight innings.

Louisiana College (15-3) trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but scored two runs before recording an out in that frame to claim the win.

In the fateful inning, LC loaded the bases with hits by Kaylee Guidry (Walker, La./Walker HS) and April Fryar (Lake Charles, La./barbe HS/McNeese State) and a hit-by-pitch by Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS).

Sophomore Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) the connected on a two-RBI single to end the game.

Guidry, making her home debut as a starting pitcher, earned the win after pitching all eight innings, allowing just six hits and three runs (all earned) while striking out five and walking two. She also went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Guidry actually carried a no-hitter through 4 2/3 innings before the Stars' Lily LaVelle broke it up with a single.

Menard finished 3-for-5 with three RBI to pace the LC offense with Greene adding a 2-for-3, 2-runs-scored performance.

AJ Woodward (5-2) took the loss for Oklahoma City University.

HISTORY MADE

The Stars picked up the win in a defensive battle in Game 1, taking a 1-0 win after LeeAnn Lopez connected on a fourth-inning solo home run to spoil what turned out to be a record-breaking day for senior pitcher Rene' Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS).

Schwartzenburg (8-1) became the all-time strikeouts queen at LC after fanning seven in five innings of work. Those strikeouts brought her career total to 557, one better than former record holder Sandi Clark, who pitched at LC from 2003-06.

LaVelle (6-2) picked up the win for Oklahoma City after pitching a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing just four hits.

LC returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
