FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – It took 10 innings, but the No. 3 Louisiana College Lady Wildcats pulled out a huge, early-season win, downing No. 11 Salisbury 3-2 at the Methodist University Early Bird Tournament.
It was the second win of the day for LC (4-0), which defeated Mary Washington 9-0 Saturday morning.
LC trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 10th, but got an game-tying RBI single from sophomore
Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist).
Menard then stole second to set up the run, which came courtesy of a walk-off RBI single by
Daniele Wilson (Destrehan, La./Copiah-Lincoln CC).
Senior
Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More) picked up the win pitching the last two innings of the game for senior All-American
Rene' Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS).
In the early game, offense came easy for LC, which got multiple-hit performances from four players.
Wilson went 2-for-3 with an RBI,
Emily Douglas (Gonzales, La./St. Amant HS/Nicholls State) 2-for-2 with an RBI,
Carli Wheeler (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) 2-for-2 with an RBI and Aril Fryar (Lake Charles, La./Barbe HS/McNeese State) 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Freshman
Kaylee Guidry (Walker, La./Walker HS) picked up the win in her first collegiate appearance, pitching four innings of the mercy-rule shortened game and striking out six while walking one and allowing just one hit.
LC will return to action next Friday with a pair of games at the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament in Dallas.
