Wildcats lose final game of series to Hardin-Simmons

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College Wildcats were unable to sweep Hardin-Simmons but instead had to settle for a series win after dropping the final contest of their three-game series with the Cowboys 10-4 on Saturday.

Hardin-Simmons (7-3) scored five runs in the fourth to blow open a lead that Louisiana College (9-4) could not overcome.

In all, the Cowboys scored their 10 runs on 14 hits while LC scored its four runs on eight hits.

Senior third baseman Brandt Daigle (Alexandria, La./Alexandria Senior HS) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, senior center fielder Cody Laprarie (Bentley, La./Grant HS/LSU-Alexandria) 2-for-5 with one run scored and senior catcher Chris Waguespack (Desterhan, La./St; Charles Catholic/Delgado CC) 1-for-3 with a run scored and another driven to lead LC's offense.

Center fielder LeJuan Edwards was the top performer for Hardin-Simmons going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Left fielder Andrew Rehling went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Cowboys.

James Simmons (2-0) picked up the win pitching the last six innings of the contest in relief of starter Blake Sieck while LC lefty Dustin Fulks (0-1) took the loss.

LC will return to action Monday at 2 p.m. with a home doubleheader against NAIA opponent Jarvis Christian.
