LC men's and women's tennis seasons underway

Last weekend, the almost-entirely-new Wildcat and Lady Wildcat tennis teams made their first appearances of the 2011 season with visits to Texas Dallas and Austin College.

While all matched ended in 9-0 defeats for the LC contingent, the season debut nonetheless offered some positive signs for the future of LC tennis under first-year head coach Justin Charles.

On Saturday, LC ventured to Richardson, Texas, for an American Southwest Conference showdown with Texas Dallas with the Comets sweeping the day.

In the men's singles matches Daniel Bembenick fell to Sebastian Leitz 6-1, 6-0; Logan Quebedeaux fell to Brian Leib 6-1, 6-0; Jeff Trinh defeated Prateek JuneJa 6-0, 6-2; Wayne Chang defeated Michael Sumner 6-1, 6-0; Josh Jee lost to Clint Laukhauf 6-0, 6-0; and Antonio Alba defeated Cameron Garlington 6-0, 6-0.

In men's doubles, Lietz and Leib defeated Bembenick and Quebedeaux 8-3, Trinh and Chang defeated Jee and JuneJa 8-1 and Laukauf and Alda defeated Garlington and Sumner 8-0.

On the women's side, the Comets were equally successful.

In women's singles, Mindy Tiu defeated Taylor Henderson 6-3, 6-3; Rachel Houston defeated Raquel Flaggert 6-1, 6-0; Cindy Tie defeated Pearl Woodward 6-0, 6-0; Jean-Jean Gwo defeated Elizabeth Chappell 6-0, 6-0; Megan Tan defeated Daniele Lucas 6-0, 6-0 and Lauren Diaz defeated Lydia Magallanes 6-1, 6-0.

In women's doubles, Houston and Gwo defeated Flaggert and Henderson 8-1; Cindy Tiu and Tan defeated Woodward and Chappell 8-0 and Megan Tiu and Diaz defaeted Lucas and Magallanes 8-0.

On Sunday morning, the LC tennis teams ventured to Sherman, Texas, for a morning match with Austin College, with the Kangaroo men and women both posting 9-0 wins, although both the WIldcats and Lady Cats showed marked improvement.

In men's singles, Tyler Roush defeated Quebedeaux 6-1, 6-3; Anthony Cook defeated Bembenick 6-3, 6-4; James Taylor defeated Jee 6-0, 6-1; Zack Bengston defeated Sumner 6-1, 6-0; Erick Gordon defeated Garlington 6-4, 6-1; and Will Jarvis defeated JuneJa 6-4, 6-3.

In men's doubles, Cook and Roush defeated Quebedeaux and Bembenick 8-3; Taylor and Bengston defeated Jee and JuneJa 8-0 and Jack Kunde and Spencer Gander defeated Garlington and Sumner 8-1.

In women's singles, Sophie McDonald defeated Henderson 6-3. 7-6 (3); Anne Booker defeated Flaggert 6-2, 6-0; Madison Watt defeated Chappell 6-0, 6-0; Melanie Bishop defeated Woodward 6-0, 6-1; Ashley Hellman defeated Magallanes 6-1, 6-0; and Amy Harvey defeated Daniele Lucas 6-0, 6-0.

In women's doubles, Arianne Goddard and Elizabeth Flind defeated Flaggert and Henderson 8-3; Kelly Lewis and Minnie Satyavada defeated Woodward and Lucas 8-0 and Jessie Berger and Margaret Edwards defeated Chappell and Magallanes 8-0.
