LC men struggle versus Texas Dallas

Box Score
RICHARDSON, Texas - The Louisiana College Wildcats struggled in virtually every way as they suffered a lopsided loss on the road to the University of Texas Dallas 92-67.

In a game that the Cats knew they had to win to hold onto their third-place position in the American Southwest Conference East, the loss proved especially costly. The Wildcats fell to 9-8 in the conference and 10-11 overall.

More importantly, the Wildcats have fallen into a three-way tie for third place in the ASC East along with Mississippi College and Texas-Tyler. ETBU is 1.5 games ahead of those three teams at 11-8 in second place. UTD has all but wrapped up first place and the right to host the ASC men's tournament with a 13-4 conference record. Only the top four teams from each division make the tournament.

The only lead LC had the entire game was in the first three minutes until a 3-point shot by Comet Greg Chiasson tied the game at five. It was downhill from there for the Cats who fell behind the Comets by 20-points in the first half and saw a 55-25 deficit at the intermission.

With the Cats struggling to produce any offense, head coach Gene Rushing cleared his bench, trying to find anyone who might have a hot hand.

Junior Ryan Meadows led the Cats with 12 points and four rebounds followed by freshman Doc Welch who had 11 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Romanaski Williams finished with eight points and three rebounds.

The four Cats who have averaged in double digits through the season, senior Chukwuma Ekeh and juniors JeLani Mitchell, Jarrod Jackson and Korey Salmon were held to 15 points total.

The Cats will travel to the University of the Ozarks on Monday at 3 p.m.

With games at ETBU next Thursday and at Mississippi College the following Tuesday, the Wildcats will likely have to win at least two of those three remaining games to make the ASC Tournament.
