Women's basketball gets tough win over rival MC on road

CLINTON, Miss. – The Lady Cats built a comfortable halftime lead then built on it in the second half. Louisiana College logged a hard-fought, 71-56 win over rival and American Southwest Conference East Division foe Mississippi College.

The Lady Cats (7-1, 5-0 ASC) jumped out to a 10-point lead only to see Mississippi College (3-3, 3-2 ASC) cut that lead to 21-20 with less than eight minutes to play in the first half.

On the back of junior forward Natosha Gottlieb (Alexandria, La./Bolton HS), who scored seven first-half points, and senior guard Shasidy Ludgood (Inglewood, Cal./Tusculum Univ.), who scored eight, LC was able to extend its lead to 34-24 at the break.

In the second half the LC lead neither shrunk below eight nor grew above 17 as the Lady Cats outscored the Choctaws 33-32.

On the night, LC forced Mississippi College into 33 turnovers, 22 in the first half, and scored 32 points off turnovers.

Ludgood finished as high scorer for LC with 13. Gottlieb added 12 point to go along with five steals and Roslyn Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) and Melody Criswell (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) 11 apiece.
Criswell was also good for eight rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Mississippi College was lead  by Caitlin Brown and Elizabeth Brooks with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Louisiana College returns to action on Dec. 17 with a visit to Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
