CLINTON, Miss. – The Louisiana College men made a piece of history here Tuesday night, logging their first ever win at Mississippi College. In a wild affair that saw four players ejected, the Wildcats downed the Choctaws 88-85.

It was only the third time in school history for the Wildcats to down the Choctaws on any court.

“It's great to finally get a win at MC,” senior post Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye HS) said. “We're doing stuff we've never done, at least since this senior class has been here, and we're going to try to keep it going.”

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 4-1 overall and in American Southwest Conference play while Mississippi College fell to 1-4 overall and in ASC action.

“It's a weight off our shoulders to finally come in here and get a win,” senior wing Jarrod Jackon (Albany, La./Albany HS) said. “It's great to be a part of a little piece of history but the history we all want to be a part of is winning a championship and we are long, long way from doing that. We'll take the win, but we have to build on it.”

The game went haywire in the final 18 seconds of regulation.

With LC leading 84-83, Brandon Blake hit a pair of free throws to give the Choctaws an 85-84 lead then fouled LC's Jelani Mitchell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS) prior to the inbounds pass.

After Mitchell hit two free throws to give LC an 86-85 advantage, Salmon stole an inbounds pass at midcourt and sprinted for the goal.

Trevon Malone attempted to slow down Salmon by grabbing the LC player's jersey then dragging Salmon to the floor.

A minor altercation insued and while no punches were thrown, Malone was ejected on a flagrant-two  foul and three LC players – Doc Welch, Jesse Gallegos and Josh Hawkins – were ejected for leaving the designated bench area.

After the smoke cleared, Salmon hit one of his two free throws, the Wildcats kept the ball, senior Jarrod Jackson hit one of his two free throws after being fouled on an inbounds pass by Greg Pulliam on a flagrant-one foul, LC turned over the inbounds pass and Blake failed to connect on what would have been a game-tying three at the buzzer.

The Wildcats played MC to a 41-41 tie in the first half, one in which Jackson scored 14 points, Mitchell (St. Martnville, La./St. Martinville HS) nine and Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye HS) eight.

The game remained close through most of the second half, with neither team assuming a lead of more than four points, but with just less than 4 ½ minutes to play, the Choctaws built a 78-70 lead and LC coach Gene Rushing called a timeout.

When play resumed, LC cut the lead to 78-77 after a three-pointer and a four-point play by Mitchell but MC was able to score five points of its own to take an 82-77 lead with 1:55 to play. LC outscored MC 11-3 in the final minutes of play to get the win.

Jackson finished with a game-high 26 points to go along with four assists with Salmon and Mitchell scoring 20 apiece with Salmon dishing out three assists and making four steals.

Derrick Gardner (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS) added 10 points and seven rebounds to the Louisiana College cause.

Seven Mississippi College players scored in double figures on the night with Chad Jones leading the way with 14.

Louisiana College returns to action on Dec. 12 with a visit to NCAA Division I opponent Rice in Houston.
