Lady Wildcats, still tops in country, prepare for Texas road trip

Pineville, La. -- The National Fast Pitch Coaches Association announced their weekly rankings and for the sixth consecutive week, Louisiana College is the unanimous number one team in the country. The Lady Wildcats (34-2) received all eight first place votes and sit above second ranked East Texas Baptist University.

LC will take its top rank on the road this week for rematches against their two biggest rivals in the American Southwest Conference. They will travel to Tyler, Texas on Thursday for a doubleheader against the Patriots. The Lady Wildcats will try to jump on star pitcher Stacy Shepherd, who almost tossed a no-hitter in picking up a 4-2 victory on March 24th.

Louisiana College has a two game lead on Tyler at the top of the ASC East, and a split with the Patriots would probably be enough to clinch the conference for the Lady Wildcats.

On Saturday, LC will end the regular season at Marshall, Texas with a meeting with ETBU. Louisiana College is coming off a sweep of the Lady Tigers on Saturday, beating them by scores of 4-1 and 6-1.

ETBU (28-6) retained its place as the second ranked team in the nation, despite losing four games in a row. The Lady Tigers were swept in a double header by Mississippi College after dropping both games here.

Ohio Northern (27-1) and Luther (25-4), are the third and fourth teams, respectively. It is the first time since week three that teams from outside of the American Southwest Conference have cracked the top three. That was the week before Louisiana College began their reign at the top of the rankings.

Mississippi College (27-9) was not rewarded for its efforts. The Lady Choctaws saw themselves inexplicably dropped from the rankings despite taking care of business against ETBU. MC is 10-2 in their last twelve contests, but saw themselves booted rather than moved up from their previous ranking of 19th.

Texas-Tyler (29-5) also saw themselves drop to fifth despite not losing a game in the past two weeks and moving ahead of ETBU into second place in the ASC East.
