PINEVILLE – For the second straight week, the Wildcats baseball team faced not only a must-win, but must-sweep doubleheader and for the second straight week Mike Byrnes' Louisiana College baseball team rose to the call.

Six days after sweeping a doubleheader from East Texas Baptist to win their first American Southwest Conference East Division series of the year, the Wildcats (11-17, 4-5 ASC East) were able to take two from the University of the Ozarks, both by a count of 4-2, to win their second ASC series and keep their postseason hopes alive.

The Wildcats, who fell 8-6 to the Eagles Thursday night, benefitted from superb pitching from either extreme of their personnel.

True freshman Anthony VanGessel (3-2) picked up the win in game one, going 6 1/3 innings and striking out four while senior Hunter King (1-2) snagged the win in game two with a six-inning, no-earned-runs, three-strikeout performance.

Seniors Cole Bishop (1) and Dustin Tubre (1) got the save in games one and two respectively.

Bishop spelled VanGessel for the final 2/3 of an inning in game one, a seven-inning contest, while Tubre pitched three full innings of relief and struck out five in game two, a nine-inning affair.

At the plate, the Wildcats were led by redshirt freshman Mike Doughty, who went a combined 4-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI.

In game one, other top performers were Walt McGee (1-for-1, one run scored, one RBI), Jon Michael Kidd (1-for-2, one RBI) and Jonathan Ettinger (2-for-3, one run scored, one RBI).

In game two, LC's top performers were Steven Bowman (1-for-4, one run scored, two RBI), and Bishop (2-for-4, one run scored).

Ozarks, which fell to 10-17 on the year and 5-6 in ASC East play, was led offensively by Scot Dietz, who went a combined 5-for-7 with one run scored and two RBI.

Cory Briggs and Bobby Osburn were the respective losing pitchers on the day.

Next up for the Wildcats will be a road trip to ASC powerhouse Texas-Tyler next Friday and Saturday
