PINEVILLE – Too many base runners were the story here Friday as the Louisiana College baseball team lost 8-6 to the University of the Ozarks to fall to 9-17 overall and 2-5 in American Southwest Conference East play.
A total of 21 Ozarks batter reached safely either by hit (15), walk (four) or error (two) as the team from Clarksville, Ark. , scored one run in the first, three in the second, three in the fourth and one in the seventh en route to the win, one credited to starter Brett Wood.
Ozarks reliever Bill Smith got the save while LC's
Jordan Meisner (2-1) took the loss.
LC's top batter on the day was senior second baseman Jonathan Ettinger, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Cody Laprarie went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Mike Doughty 1-for-3 with two RBI to add to the Wildcats' offense.
Three Ozarks batters – Mitchell Powers, Scott Dietz and Jeremy Hogan – went 3-for-5 on the day.
LC will get the chance to bounce back and win the three-game series Friday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
