PINEVILLE – What do
Stuart Morgan, Steven Jones, Brett King, josh Foster, Grant Cox, Justin lacy,
Jordan Meisner, Hunter King and Cole Bishop have in common? On Friday night at Louisiana College, these nine young men – ranging from freshman to senior in experience, combined to pitch one inning apiece for LC in its home-opening 10-2 win over Texas College, a win that improved Louisiana College Baseball's mark to 2-0 on the young season.
The nine-some combined to allow nine hits and issue just one walk while striking out six and allowing a pair of earned runs.
They also set the table nicely for the Wildcat offense to open up against the Steers, which the LC bats did to the tune of 10 runs on 15 hits on the night.
Virtually everyone who entered the game for LC got in on the act.
Bishop, who played the first eight innings of the game at shortstop before closing for the Wildcats in the ninth, was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
Designated hitter Jonathan Ettinger went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Starting catcher Anthony Benoit went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Chris Waguespack, who spelled Benoit in the seventh inning, was 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI.
Third baseman Walt McGee went 2-for-4 on the night with an RBI and a run scored.
Centerfielder Cody Laprarie, the LC leadoff man, had a 3-for-5 night with three runs scored while his fellow outfielder, Jon Michael Kidd (who spent time in both left and right field) went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.
Freshman first baseman Mike Doughty was good for a pair of runs scored.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday with a junior varsity game against Texas College at noon and varsity encounter with Rhodes College at 6 p.m..
Sunday afternoon, LC will play a varsity doubleheader against Rhodes with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
