Lady Cats close out regular season in style

TYLER, Texas – Tillisha Givens had 23 points and 15 rebounds as the 18-ranked Louisiana College women's basketball team finished its regular season with a 60-47 victory over Texas-Tyler at the Herrington Patriot Center.

It was the 13th straight victory for the Lady Wildcats, who finish the regular season with a 21-2 record, including a 17-2 mark in American Southwest Conference play. LC, which previously had clinched the ASC East Division title, finished 11-0 in the East.

LC will be the host for the eight-team ASC Tournament Feb. 26-28 in Pineville, La. The Lady Cats will open the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 against the No. 4 seed from the ASC West. McMurry. Texas Lutheran and Hardin-Simmons are battling for the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds from the West.

With the results of Thursday's games, the East field is set for the ASC tourney. LC is the No. 1 seed with Texas-Dallas as the No. 2, Mississippi College as the No. 3 and East Texas Baptist as the No. 4.

Texas-Tyler fell to 10-13 overall and 8-10 in the ASC with the loss and was eliminated from postseason consideration.

The Patriots did not go down without a fight, however.

LC struggled offensively for much of the game, connecting on only six of 33 shots (18.2 percent) in the first half. The Lady Wildcats led by just three, 22-19 at the break.

LC led by five points, 49-44, with 4:01 left in the game before outscoring UT-Tyler 11-3 the rest of the way.

Givens was easily the game's dominant player, collecting her fifth double-double in the last six games. It was her eighth double-double of the season.

Freshman center Voneshia Williams also had a double-double for LC, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Christy Pantallion finished with 10 points for the Lady Cats but struggled to find her shot, hitting just 3 of 13 attempts from the field.

Ally Allen finished with her first career double-double for UT-Tyler, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Cookie Domino had 12 points and Paige Parrish finished with 10 points for the Patriots.
