Lady Cats open conference play with rout of Schreiner

PiNEVILLE, La. - The 2010 American Southwest Conference champions picked up right where they left off in their conference opener here Saturday afternoon. Louisiana College forced 35 turnovers and prodcued 21 steals en route to a 68-37 win over Schreiner.

Janice Joseph-Richard, the Lady Cats' head coach currently on leave while battling cancer, made a surprise appearance to root on the team she left under the care of interim Jason Tinsley.

LC (3-0. 1-0 in conference play) took a 31-24 lead into the half then ran away with game, outscoring Schreiner (0-3, 0-2) 37-13 in the second session.

It was a balanced showing on defense for the up-tempo Lady Cats. All 11 women on the LC roster made an appearance in the game and 10 produced at least one steal with no one swiping more than three.

Junior point guard Roslyn Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) led all scorers with 15 and also added three steals, two assists and five rebounds.

Senior forward Kayla Guidry (Alexandria, La./Peabody.UTEP) was good for 13 points, three steals, one block, three assists and three rebounds.

Preseason All-American Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish HS) actually came off the bench in this game and put up 10 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Julissa Garrett scored nine points to pace Schreiner.

Next up for the Lady Cats will be a 5:30 p.m. home showdown with conference Texas Lutheran, another conference opponent, Monday night at H.O. West Field House.
