BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana College women improved to 2-0 on the season with a second-straight blowout win. One day after routing Rust College 97-53 in the opener of the Birmingham Southern tournament, the Lady Cats cruised to a 78-54 win over Rose-Hulman in their tournament finale.
Two LC women, senior forward Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La/Ouachita Parish HS) and sophomore forward Natosha Gottlieb (Alexandria, La./Bolton HS), earned all-tournament honors for their efforts.
Givens followed her 24-point, 15-rebound double-double against Rust College with a 15-point, 14-rebound showing versus Rose-Hulman. She also had five steals.
Gottlieb, who put up a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double of her own versus Rust, put up 15 points and had five steals and a pair of blocked shots in the Rose-Hulman contest.
The leading scorer on the night for the Lady Cats, though, was senior guard Janet Butler (Eros, La./West Ouachita HS), who hits five of the 10 three-pointers she attempted en route to a 19-point showing.
Junior guard Roslyn Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) added eight points in the win.
On the night, the Lady Cats (2-0) forced Rose-Hulman into 35 turnovers, 21 of which were steals.
Rose-Hulman had three players to reach double-figure scoring: Heather Finnell (13), Erin Davey (12) and Donna Marsh (10).
Joining Givens and Gottlieb on the all-tournament team were Sam Davidson (Birmingham Southern) , Katelyn Wilson (Birmingham Southern), Alex Adams (Birmingham Southern), Alisa Dickerson (Rose-Hulman) and Al'lisha Hudson (Rust).
The Lady Cats return to action this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they open conference play against Schreiner University, the home opener for the LC women.
