BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana College women got off to a rousing start in their 2010-11 season opener, routing Rust College 97-53 at the Birmingham Southern Classic.

LC senior and preseason All-American Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish HS) was the catalyst for the Lady Cats, posting a 24-point, 15 rebound double-double and swiping five steals, a portion of the 30 turnovers forced by LC in the contest.

Sophomore Natosha Gottlieb (Alexandria, La./Bolton HS) had a doubl-double of her own, scoring 16 points, pulling down 13 rebounds and blocking four shots.

LC newcomer Shasidy Ludgood (Inglewood, Cal./Tusculum Univ.) was good for 21 points and six rebouinds in her debut for the Lady Cats while another transfer, Kayla Guidry (Alexandria, La./Peabody HS/UTEP) scored nine.

Veteran point guard Roslyn Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) put up 12 points for the Lady Cats.

The stingy LC defense was so staunch that just one player from Rust, Al'Lisha Hudson managed to crack double-figure scoring. Hudson was good for 18 in the loss.

Next up for the Lady Cats will be a showdown with Rose-Hulman in the Birmingham Southern Classic at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
