AUSTIN, Texas - Two days after suffering a disappointing loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor, the No. 22 Louisiana College women's basketball team rebounding with a vengeance against Concordia, notching a 78-58 win to improve to 9-2 on the season and 6-2 in American Southwest Conference play. The LC men fell back to .500 on the season (6-6, 4-4) after a 88-77 loss in the second half of the doubleheader.
Whereas Thursday night, the Lady Cats struggled from the field (30 percent), behind the three-point arc (25 percent) and at the foul line (44 percent) in a 53-44 loss to UMHB, Saturday afternoon proved a far more successful offensive outing.
LC's women shot 44.2 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from three-point land and an amazing 93.3 percent from the charity stripe en route to outscoring Concordia 38-27 in teh first half and 40-31 in the second.
Moreover, the mighty LC defense stymied Concordia throughout the game, holding the 5-7 (4-6 in ASC) Tornadoes to 35.4 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent on three-point attempts.
The Lady Cats also forced 18 turnovers, 14 coming off steals.
Junior guard Christy Pantallion led the way for the Lady Cats with 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.Freshman post player Voneshia Williams had a great day in the paint, producing an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double as well as one assist, three blocks and two steals.
Tillisha Givens was good for 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals while Rosyln Wilmer put up 13 points four assists and four steals.
Joanna Tate, LC's lone senior, put up eight points and had two steals in the win.
The LC men had no trouble putting up points, but struggled to hold Concordia's men off the scoreboard in an 88-77 loss.
While three Wildcats reached double figures scoring - Jarrod Jackson had 21 points and
Daniel Greenhouse and Jeremy Hollier 13 apiece - Concordia's big two of Brad Walker and Kenny Williams proved too much for the LC men to overcome.
Walker scored a career high 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double to go along with five blocks and five steals while Williams scored 21 points.
The Wildcats and Lady Cats will return to action Tuesday night with a visit to rival Mississippi College.
