PINEVILLE - The Wildcats' first game of the new year turned out to be their best performance of the season, an 11-point win over NAIA St. Thomas, of Houston, to the tune of a 77-66 showing.
LC, which improved to 5-5 overall, eeked out a 57-56 win over St. Thomas on the road earlier in the year but Monday night it was all Wildcats.
Five LC men reached double figures in scoring for a Louisiana College team that was 51 percent from teh field for the game.
Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye High), a 6-foot-9 sophomore post player, had the best statistical game, with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double to go along with four assists and two blocks.
Sophomore point guard JeLani Mithcell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville High) had a team-16 points as well as four assists while senior forward
Daniel Greenhouse (Marksville, La./Marksville High) put up 13 points and dished out four assists.
Chukwuma Ekeh (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard High) added 12 points, six rebounds and assist and a block and Jarrod Jackson (Albany, La./Albany High) was good for 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.St. Thomas, which shot just 38.5 percent from the field and 25.9 percent from three-point land, was led offensivley by guards Melvin Roberts and Travis Lampley, who scored 24 and 13 points respectively.
The Wildcats, along with the Lady Cats, will now embark on a three-game road trip against consecutive American Southwest Conference foes - Mary Hardin-Baylor (Thursday), Concordia (Saturday) and Mississippi College (Tuesday) before returning home against Texas-Tyler on Jan. 14.
