PINEVILLE – In what has become a trend of late, the Louisiana College women's team knocked off a ranked conference opponent at home. A few weeks after defeating then-top 25 Hardin-Simmons, the Lady Cats logged their most impressive win to date, a 69-54 victory over No. 6 Howard Payne.
The Lady Cats, who improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference play, looked more the part of a top-10 team throughout, taking a 31-24 lead into half and outscoring Howard Payne 38-30 in the second half.
Junior guard Christy Pantallion (Alexandria, La./Bolton High) had one of her best outings of the season, putting up 22 points, pulling down seven rebounds, dishing out three assists, blocking two shots and producing two steals to lead the way for LC.
Three other Lady Cats reached double figures in the game.
Freshman post Voneshia Williams (Alexandria, La./Bolton High), had a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Junior guard Briana Lewis (West Monroe, La./West Monroe High) was good for 14 points, including one three-pointer from eight feet behind the arc to beat the shot clock late in the game and officially drive the final nail in the coffin for Howard Payne.
Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish High), the preseason ASC East player of the year, put up 11 points, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out two assists and had a pair of steals.
Howard Payne, which fell to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in ASC play, was in scoring by Brittany Zamora (12 points) and Katy Sarem (11).
The Lady Cats will not play again until Jan. 2, 2010, when they visit Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
LC will return home on Jan. 14, 2010, for a game against Texas-Tyler.
