PINEVILLE – The lack of the American Southwest Conference East Division preseason player of the year was but a mild nuisance for the Lady Cats here Thursday night as Louisiana College's women rolled to a 79-50 win over Sul Ross.
With Tillisha Givens sitting out the game due to an injury, the Lady Cats outscored Sul Ross 43-17 in the first half and coasted to the win as well as a 6-1 overall recprd and 4-1 conference mark.
Despite the Lady Cats' offensive explosion, just one player, freshman Myshnae Swan, scored in double figures.
Swan, whose twin sister Denae' led the Lady Cats in rebounding with 10, was good for a game-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds, a steal and an assist.
The beauty of the LC offense on the night, however, was in the fact that pffense came from virtually every player as 11 Lady Cats scored at least one point.
Christy Pantallion scored nine points, pulled down nine rebounds, produced two steals and dished out six assists.
Junior Briana Lewis was good for eight points and five steals.
Other top performers for the Lady Cats included Voneshia Williams (eight points), Joanna Tate (six points, two assists), Natosha Gottlieb (eight points), Janet Butler (six points, three steals) and Roslyn Wilmer (nine points, four assists).
Overall, the Lady Cats shot 42.3 percent from the field on the night and were 42.9 percent from three-point territory, going 6-for-14.
The LC defense was also in full gear on the night, forcing Sul Ross, which fell to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in ASC play, into 24 turnovers.
Sul Ross shot 35.6 percent from the field and was led by Liz Pereya, who scored 11 points.
The Lady Cats return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a home game against nationally-ranked Howard Payne.
