PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University women's basketball team hit seven three-pointers, all of which were key in a 67-56 win over the Our Lady of the Lake Saints Thursday evening on the Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
Louisiana Christian (4-21, 3-16 RRAC) never trailed throughout the contest though Our Lady of the Lake (9-16, 8-11 RRAC) would tie the score twice in the first quarter, the last time coming at 12-12 before a three-pointer by
Kaitlyn Antilley gave LCU the lead for good with 1:45 left in the opening period.
After a pair of OLLU free throws made it 15-14 Wildcats, a layup by
Kylei Leblanc started an 8-0 LCU run which Leblanc also finished with the first basket of the second quarter to make it 23-14 Wildcats.
LCU's lead hit double figures for the first time with 4:45 left in the second quarter as
Kateria Gooden got to the rim for a lay-up to make it 30-19. The largest lead of the half for the Wildcats came right at the buzzer as
Maddison Carey connected from deep to put the Wildcats up 37-25 at the break.
The Saints came out of the half and immediately cut that lead by more than half, going on a 7-0 run to make it 37-32 LCU. However, a layup by
Carlea Owens seemed to steady things for the Wildcats and LCU responded with an 11-0 run as a jumper by Antilley found the bottom of the net to make it 48-32 Wildcats with just less than two minutes left in the quarter. OLLU scored the last three points in the period, and the Wildcats led 48-35 heading to the final quarter.
With the Wildcats leading 55-41 with 7:30 left in the contest, the Saints went on a 7-0 run to cut the LCU lead down to seven with less than four minutes left. From there, LCU was able to answer each OLLU basket with points of their own, keeping the Saints at bay and holding on for the win.
Leblanc led the Wildcats on the day, scoring 17 points while grabbing six rebounds, giving out three assists, blocking two shots, and coming up with a couple steals.
Owens was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked three shots, dished out an assist, and came up with a steal.
Antilley had one of her best games, hitting four of her seven shot attempts on her way to 10 points off the bench while also grabbing three rebounds.
Gooden scored four points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench as well.
LCU hit 24 baskets at a 39.3 percent clip in the win, but key was seven made three-point field goals on 38.9 percent shooting from deep. OLLU hit 22 shots overall in the contest at a 34.4 percent clip, but struggled mightily from long range. The Saints hit just one of their 21 three-point attempts on the night, a 4.8 percent three-point field goal percentage on the evening.
The Wildcats play their final home game of the 2025-26 season on Saturday as Texas A&M-San Antonio comes to Pineville for Senior Day. Tip-off of Saturday's contest against the Jaguars (18-7, 15-4 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. on Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse with the Senior Day festivities taking place following the conclusion of the women's game.
