Wildcat Rally Falls Short in Defeat

LCU Can't Overcome 2-0 Deficit in Loss to Jaguars

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer team found a quick answer after falling behind 2-0, but couldn't come up with the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to the Texas A&M-Victoria Jaguars Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

Texas A&M-Victoria (5-4, 1-1 RRAC) found the early lead, getting the game's opening goal in the 13th minute. But that would be all the scoring in the first half as the Jaguars took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Things didn't get much better for the Wildcats (2-4, 0-2 RRAC) to start the second half as TAMUV added another goal in the 50th minute to take a 2-0 lead.

But it didn't take long for LCU to answer and get back into the match. In the 53rd minute, Ezra Williams send a cross into the box and Aran Hernandez Vivar got on the end of it to knock it into the goal, cutting the deficit down to 2-1.

However, an equalizer was not to come for the Wildcats through the final 37 minutes.

Vivar took four shots for the Wildcats, putting two on target, including his third goal of the season. Juan Sierra took two shots in the contest.

Ricardo Gross was credited with four saves as he came on in relief of Juan Diego Ramirez Leon, who had two saves before leaving the game early. Both goalkeepers surrendered a goal each.

The Wildcats now head on the road for two straight, starting on Thursday in Longview, Texas against Texas College. Kickoff against the Steers (0-4, 0-2 RRAC) is set for 3 p.m. at Lear Park.
