Lexi Broussard’s Grand Slam Ignites Senior Day Sweep of Xavier

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University softball program may have been celebrating Senior Day, but it was a junior who kick-started the comeback with an offensive performance of a lifetime as the Cats picked up another massive conference win in a 10-2 rout of Xavier (Louisiana) in game two Sunday afternoon.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • The unnamed player in the opening paragraph was Lexi Broussard, who picked the most opportune time for her first career home run, unloading the bases for the team's first grand slam since the 2023 RRAC Tournament en route to a personal-record five-RBI, 3-for-3 nightcap in which she drove in all of her ribbies in the opening two frames on top of scoring twice and stealing a bag.

  • Senior Jordan Dauthier was up next, and she essentially sewed up the victory when she bounced the next ball off the top of the wall and over for back-to-back jacks for the Cats (their first since March 30, 2023 at Dallas Christian), a 6-2 edge, and her tenth career round-tripper.

  • A pair of seniors, Miah Broussard and Brooke Ross, clamped down on the Gold Nuggets' offense as the former improved her record to 6-5 on the campaign with win number 23 at LCU while the latter notched her second save in as many years by hurling three scoreless innings to close out the night.

  • Isabella Battaglia sent all of the families, friends and Wildcat Faithful home happy and early as she smoked a double down the left field line to score pinch-runners Anicia Taylor plus McKenzie Montgomery to make the tally 10-2 in the fifth, promptly ending the ballgame.

  • Emma Hunt moved to within one steal of tying Briley Johnston's all-time stolen base record (107) on a day in which she was one of 11 seniors honored, walking two times, scoring twice, and swiping both second as well as third base in a two-pitch span.

                        * The speedster will attempt to surpass her predecessor in the outfield against the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian in the home finale Tuesday before the Wildcats live primarily on the road prior to the conference tourney.

  • Finally, senior Karlie Stine drove in an RBI on a situational play, grounding out to third base with a runner on third in addition to being hit by a pitch.

Next:

  • Tuesday's 3 and 5 p.m. twin-bill versus Jarvis Christian University will end the club's regular season home schedule before coming back to "The Hill" for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at the start of May.
