KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Louisiana Christian University women's tennis program finally broke through the glass ceiling that had held them captive in the receiving votes category for far too long, ranking among the Top 25 in the NAIA for the first time in history with their official debut landing at #22 with exactly 100 points per the final regular season poll released Wednesday morning.
Whether the season lives on in the NAIA Tournament or ended following the heartbreaking loss to Our Lady of the Lake in the RRAC Championship Game, the Wildcats have made this University as proud as it ever has been of its ladies on the court.
Playing in one of the toughest conferences in the country with all but one team not listed among the 25-best, Head Coach
Alexandra Starkova issued a massive two-year turnaround from 6-14 (30%) to 12-10 (54.5%), doubling their previous year's win total while securing their first winning season this school has possibly ever seen.
The team proved to be a thorn in the side of more established programs this season, upending six separate ranked opponents through their championship chase including all of the following in the current poll: #11 LSU Alexandria (twice), #19 Our Lady of the Lake (regular season), #25 LSU Shreveport (twice), and (RV) Mobile, all but the first victory over LSUA being either true road or neutral site matches.
Six more days will need to go by before LCU finds out whether they get to #BattleForTheRedBanner in Mobile, Alabama from May 13-17 as there will be no selection show, just a press release by the NAIA on Tuesday, April 29.
